NVCommercial was formed in 1983 as part of the “NV” group of companies, a diversified group of real estate development and management firms involved in land development, home building, apartments and commercial properties. What began as a small land development company has evolved into a series of mature businesses which includes NVR, a publicly traded homebuilder which is the leading homebuilder in the Washington, D.C. market.
Jack Waghorn
President
(30 Years Retail Development Experience)
Mr. Waghorn is responsible for the overall operations of NVRetail Incorporated, including development and marketing oversight, negotiation of land acquisition contracts and anchor tenant leases, supervision of engineering and design matters, and the management and disposition of portfolio properties. Prior to joining NVRetail, Mr. Waghorn worked with Zimmer Development Company, where he accomplished the development of several grocery-anchored retail centers over a period of five years. Prior to his employ with Zimmer, he served as Vice President of Development at First Washington Realty Trust. Additionally, in the mid-1990’s, Mr. Waghorn worked with NVCommercial (a sister company to NVRetail), where he was responsible for the leasing and management of several retail centers.
Mr. Peter Lunt
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Lunt is a businessman who has lived in Northern Virginia since 1977. He has three children, ages 18-25. His office is located in Fairfax County, where he has business interests. Mr. Lunt lived in Arlington from 1977-82, at which time he moved to Alexandria, where he has lived for the past 25 years.
Mr. Lunt is a Principal of NVCommercial, Incorporated (a commercial real estate company). He is the individual acting as general partner for the Northern Virginia and Denver real estate portfolio for NVCommercial.
Mr. Lunt started his business career in the investment group of The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company from, where he worked from 1973-1979. During this period, he was actively involved in over $200,000,000 of new investments.
Mr. Lunt graduated with a MBA in Finance in 1973 from Indiana University and received a Bachelor’s in Economics from the University of Richmond in 1971. He earned Beta Gamma Sigma honors at both Universities, and Omicron Delta Kappa honors during his undergraduate years.
Mr. Lunt has served in various leadership roles in the Community. He became involved in Carpenter’s Shelter in 1993 during a threatened eviction of its residents. He joined the Board in 1994, and served as Chairman from 1996-2001. When Mr. Lunt took over as Chairman, Carpenter’s was a debt-ridden 100-bed, homeless shelter located in an old rental warehouse. During his five years as Chairman, Carpenter’s Shelter built a brand new facility, paid off all debts, and acquired a small endowment. The program for the homeless has also gone from providing only the basic services to becoming a national model shelter with aftercare and transitional housing programs. Mr. Lunt still serves on the Board of Directors.
Mr. Lunt became Chairman of Friends of Guest House, Inc. in August 2003. Guest House is the only facility for female ex-offenders in Northern Virginia. Because of various management issues, it closed its doors in February 2003 and was debt-ridden. The facility was totally rehabbed in late 2003-2004, and reopened its doors in April, 2004 with an entirely new staff. All debts have been repaid, and Guest House has won a number of awards as it continues to expand its program.
Mr. Lunt joined the Board of Teaching Hope in 2008. It is a start-up charity with the goal of providing computer training and English lessons for orphans in Colombia.
Mr. Lunt acts as an advisor to several other charities.
Steve Cumbie
Chairman
Mr. Cumbie is President, Chief Executive Officer and Principal of NVCommercial Incorporated and the Metro Realty Group, commercial real estate investment, development and services companies which projects exceed $300 million completed or in process in the Washington, D.C. and Denver, Colorado metro areas. NVCommercial projects include office, retail, hotel and mixed-use properties. Metro Realty firms provide asset management, property management and development management services for both NVCommercial and third party clients.
Prior to founding NVCommercial and Metro Realty Group, Mr. Cumbie was President from 1977 to 1983 of Elm Street Development (formerly NVLand Incorporated), a residential land development company. He is a founder of all the “NV” companies including NVR, a publicly traded home-building company that operates through the Ryan Homes and NVHomes trade names.
